Academic Programs

The Centre is now providing post-graduate diploma courses in Archaeology and Museology, Archival Studies and Conservation. The duration of the courses is one year.

I. P.G.Diploma in Archaeology and Museology        

Archaeology greatly contributes to enhance our knowledge of the past using material remains. There is a lot of scope for archaeological research in Kerala. Museology is gaining popularity as a discipline that helps to preserve and conserve the rich cultural heritage of our country for posterity. There is a need for establishing more museums in district headquarters, tourist destinations and municipalities, for exhibiting the cultural wealth of our country. The course offers training in exploration and exaction methods, theoretical trends, heritage management and archaeology of Kerala. Modern treands in Museology at the international level have been included in the course. The students also will get hands-on experience on museum techniques such as documentation, display, exhibition and guiding at the Hill Palace Museum.

II. P.G. Diploma in Archival Studies

Archives plays a vital role in preserving the documents of high importance. Archival studies deals with the keeping of non-current records. With the growing awareness there is more demand for trained professionals for archival maintenance. The course intends to train the students in archives keeping, records management and conservations of documents.

The course has six theory papers and also includes an international assessment based on internship/study tours/ seminars/project reports.

III. P.G.Diploma in Conservation

Conservation of cultural heritage is the most important aspect in heritage management. Preservation of the monuments and antiquities for posterity depends upon the availability of trained conservations. The diploma course has been structured to meet this need. The Hill Palace museum gives ample opportunities for training the studies in conservation.

Eligibility for Admission

Admission to the course is based on the marks obtained in graduate /P.G. Examination and aptitude test to be conducted by CHS.A minimum mark of 45% in graduation is required for admission to all the courses. A relaxation of 5% is admissible for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, i.e. a minimum of 40%. Reservation will be provided aggregate for SC/ST and other eligible candidates.

Course Educational Qualification
I. Archaeology and Museology Degree from any recognized University with 45% and above marks.  A relaxation of 5% is admissible for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, i.e. a minimum of 40%
II. Archival Studies Degree from any recognized University with 45% and above marks.  A relaxation of 5% is admissible for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, i.e. a minimum of 40%
III Conservation  Degree in Science with Chemistry as an allied  subject    from any recognized University with 45% and above marks. A relaxation of 5% is admissible for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, i.e. a minimum of 40%

Weightage for admission is as follows:

Aggregate marks in graduation                100 Marks

Aptitude Test and Interview                     50 Marks

PG                                                       10 Marks

Total                                                  160 Marks

Age Limit

20-30 years (May be relaxed in the case of candidates deputed from goverment departments)

For study tours, interships and field trips, if any, the students will have to bear their own expenses.

Hostel

Currently the centre has no hostel facilities. Students will have to arrange boarding and lodging facilities on their own.

Method of Examination

Archaeology and Museology course has eight theory paper and a dissertation. Other courses have six theory papers and a dissertation each. International assessments based on internship/study tours/seminars/projects/assignments are also compulsory.

Correspondence

The application and prospectus can be obtained on payment of Rs.250/- by cash / demand draft in favour of Registrar, Centre for Heritage Studies, Hill Palace, Tripunithura-682301.

Duly filled application on the prescribed format along with the self-attested copies of degree certificate, mark lists and the first page of S.S.L.C book (as a proof of age) may be sent to the Register, Centre for Heritage Studies, Hill Palace, Tripunithura-682301 on or before receipt of form will be acknowledged by post in case the applicant affixes sufficient postage stamps for the purpose.

Rules and regulations

1. The duration of the course  is one year commencing from February divided into two semesters.

2. The final result is based on the university exams and internal assessment.

3. The semester fee should be remitted within the prescribed due date.
